Once the producer of 75% of the yarns found in Velcro brand hook and loop fasteners worldwide, Concordia quickly learned in the late 1980's that it had to become more specialized as foreign competition drove high volume manufacturing opportunities offshore.
Concordia began focusing on opportunities where unique engineering and performance capabilities were the drivers for product development instead of the ability to produce high product volumes. The company looked for applications where more precise control of fiber geometry, tensile, elongation, modulus, and other properties were essential to the success of the final fabric. Concordia also made a concerted effort to learn about the latest developments in new polymer technologies. As a result Concordia became a partner in the processing of Kevlar, Nomex, Teflon, Spectra, and Vectran fibers. Concordia also developed expertise in heat setting fibers to control the shrinkage properties of polyesters and nylons.
Today most of Concordia's technical yarns go into industrial applications like reinforcements for power transmission belts and filtration fabrics. The company also has also had success in developing highly specialized yarns for couture fashion fabrics and home furnishings.
Since 1920 Concordia Fibers has specialized in the design and development of engineered yarns and fibers for producing a broad range of technical fabrics. Our fibers can be found in filtration media, power transmission belts, air bags, composite materials, and a variety of other unique applications.
