Al was appointed to CEO in Oct 2018 becoming the first non-family member to run Concordia Fibers since its inception in 1920. As CEO, Al takes the reins of a company at a time critical to the growth of its new composite fibers business. Al’s success in the startup of two overseas operations to support the carbon twisting business and leadership in the process development activities for our new thermoplastic commingled fiber line demonstrated his ability to take on the leadership of the company as it takes on its new venture into providing unique fiber solutions for composites.
Al joined the Concordia Management Team in October 2013 as Chief Operating Officer. A graduate of MIT with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from the Hartford Graduate Center, Al has over 25 years of experience in leadership roles in a variety of manufacturing environments. Al’s previous experience also includes 7 years as a U.S. Navy Submarine Officer. Al is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and has significant experience in the application of lean and six sigma principles to improve processes and eliminate waste. Al’s previous roles include leadership stints managing engineering, capital projects, product development and operations in contract manufacturing, box build and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Al gained his first experience in textiles when he joined Concordia’s Medical Division in 2008 as Director of Engineering. During this period, Concordia developed several innovative textile concepts for a variety of medical device OEM’s. When the business was sold in 2011, Al moved on to work at Teleflex’s Performance Fibers division, overseeing the development of new products for Teleflex’s medical fibers business. Al’s tireless effort in helping solve customer problems, continuously improving the process and developing a strong support team is a credit to his passion for growing the business.
Since 1920 Concordia Fibers has specialized in the design and development of engineered yarns and fibers for producing a broad range of technical fabrics. Our fibers can be found in filtration media, power transmission belts, air bags, composite materials, and a variety of other unique applications.
